LO4 Colour scheme ideas

I tried to look at my poster with different colour schemes that would possibly fit the genre of the music festival better.

But I decided that my current colour scheme was the most appropriate.

LO4 Planning for the production of the graphic design products

A) Budget
Equipment costs.
Graphic designers make roughly $23,41 per year
To have all of adobes software for a month it is £36.59
The price of a graphics tablet it £65.78

Printing costs.
The costs for 3 colours and 1000 t-shirts is £1.95
The printing costs for the writs bands is £475 for 1550 wristbands
The printing costs for the hats it is £2.06 for orders over 500, this is for the beanie hat. For the baseball cap it is £2.33 for orders over 500 also.
To print the posters it would cost £237 for 1,500 A3 posters.

B) Production plan

This is my production plan for designing and creating my graphic designs. The launch date for the merchandise to be released is the 1st of May. I feel that 5 weeks will be enough time for all the products to be released. Also it times in well with the date of the festival because there is enough time for people to buy the merchandise and tickets.

C) Legal and ethical
ASA rules
All the components I have used are my own so there will be no copyright issues. The images I used for the back of the poster were taken by me so there won't be any copyright issues. I have looked at all the things that could potentially not fit with the ASA's CAP code.

One of the things is number 18 alcohol. It is very important not to promote irresponsible drinking. So I have made sure there are no images of alcohol or brands on my advertising. So it my advertisements can't interfere with the rules.
Another one is number 4 harm and offence, this rule ensures that nothing that could cause offence to someone. It is difficult because offend is a very broad term. However I have ensured that there is nothing offensive to the general public in my graphics work.

The third is Misleading advertising, the purpose of my graphics work is to promote the festival and create interest around it. None of my pieces of work contain misleading information about the festival.

LO3 Questioner results

I have tried to incorporate the metal from the hubs into the logo but I had a problem with the colouring and shadows on the photos. Although I think it would've been a good idea to put the hub logo with the advertising.

I agree that possibly having a lighter colour on the wristband would be better although the purpose of the wristband is to differentiate the type of passes e.g weekend pass or day pass. So the colours need to be bright so security and stuards can see from far away. I think pastel colour would look nice though.

I think it would've been a good idea to add sponsors to other pieces of graphics work but my only concern is that it would take away from the simplicity of the  designs. But if I had a poster then I would add the sponsors to it.

From this I can see that the logo is definitely a strong point in my work.  But from my feedback I can see that my colours could be less harsh.

LO3 Presenting to Nick Bax

This is me presenting to Nick Bax. He is a graphic designer who works for Human Studio.
I presented my conceptual ideas in a power point. I talked about the audience and the location and explained the reasoning behind them. Also I show Nick Bax my initial sketched so he could see how I got to my final design. Finally I showed my different pieces of work. This was really useful because I got to show my work and get feedback.

LO1 Task 1 Analysing exsisting graphic design work

A) The purpose of advertising is to promote the festival. The festivals colour scheme is to stand out. The purpose of the colour scheme is to show the theme of the festival, this gives the audience an insight into the festival. Also the purpose is to make people want to go to the festival.

B) The formats are presented across different mediums, there is a poster, t-shirt, bracelet, tickets and banner. The festival needs to make lots of different items to advertise the festival in different ways. Also it is important to get their logo on all of their formats so it becomes more recognisable then more popular.
C)

D) The style of the logo is quite simple but it has a lot of small details. The small yellow line around the black text contrasts massively. The style of the logo is quite feminine because of the bright colours. Also the style has a very hippy vibe because of the wavy lines and peace signs. The logo of the company denotes a big peace sign. This connotes that the festival is a friendly place and that the atmosphere there is good. This peace sign also is massively enlarged on the tickets. Also on the t-shit is the same peace sign with bestival written in it. The colour scheme of pink, green, blue and yellow connotes that the festival is a fun environment, which will make people want to go if they know it is a safe festival. This colour scheme runs through out the advertisements they have produced.
On the poster there is the logo with the peace sign and lots of different of shapes and lines also there is a lot of sun imagery. This connotes that it is a happy safe place once again
The style of the wristband is bright pink with a wavy outline. The bright pink is more for practical purposes but it still fits in with the colour scheme. Because of the colour scheme and the shapes this means overall all the style is not modern.

E) The composition, on the poster the information is all in the middle text box. At the top of the text box it says the name of the festival, the location and when it is. This is the most important information about the festival, so it needs to be at the top because that is what people will read first. Then it shows what acts will be playing at the festival. The most well know acts are at the top because more people will know them and will wan to see them. The further down the list of acts the smaller the text goes. This is because most people will only be going for the popular acts. So there is no need for the smaller acts to be advertised on the poster as much.
One difference between the ticket and the poster is that the peace sign is below the name on the ticket, this is so the peace sign can extent in lines throughout the ticket. Also the ticket doesn't say the acts of the festival because it doesn't really need to.
The layout of the t-shit just has the name of the festival in the peace sign. The t-shit will have come in different colour so the designers wouldn't have wanted to make the design complicated because that would've cost the company more money to produce.
The layout of the wristband just has the name of the festival also because it is quite a small surface to have detail on.

F) The target audience for this festival is 18-30 year old female. This is because it is a youthful festival. Most of the genres of the bands are pop and alternative. Because people would need a disposable income to pay for the festival about 85% of people will be in the ABC1 category. Also the festival does sell alcohol so the target audience will be around people who can drink.

G) All advertisements need to abide by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The advertisement doesn't cause any offence and does not contain anything that could cause offence to anyone. This is because it doesn't show, sexual activity, drug taking or glorify alcohol. The advert also doesn't give any false information about the festival.  The logo for the festival will be copyrighted so no other company can use it without companies consent.

A) The purpose of this advertisement, is to promote the festival, make people aware that it is going on so they will want to go. It is also to inform people. It tells people the date, location and what bands are playing. They can put all their advertisements up and this will increase the amount of people that see them. Which will hopefully increase the amount of people that attend the festival.

B) There are many different formats the logo has been put on. Merchandise, posters, a map of festival with the different stages and facilities on it. The company have done this because it's a way for more people to see the logo and it will become more popular. Also it proves it is their official advertisements because the logo will be copyrighted.

C)
D) The style of the logo is quite simple, it just denotes a tree, bird and the name. The tree is made up of black lines for the trunk and branches, and then the leaves are made up of various different coloured paint splatters. I think the tree is really effective because it is so simple. Then the bird next to is also a very simple design. There are many connotations of trees, but in this context I think it is showing that the festival is very at one with nature, that it is a peaceful place and is safe and secure. Also it links to the name of the festival electric picnic. Most people have picnics in parks where there will obviously be trees. So it shows that atmosphere and environment.
In the style of the poster the background has the same paint splatter as the tree branches. The difference is the colour of these is light blue and it varies in its opaqueness depending on the amount of splatters in the same area. It also has the logo at the top.
The style of the t-shit is very simple and similar to the logo but the colours are more vibrant.
Finally the map has quite a simple style this is because it has a lot of information on it, so if it had a lot of colours and shapes then it would be hard to read. Because of this it is just a plain yellow colour with a little fading of the colour in all the corners.

E) The logo is the tree design and underneath it says electric picnic, the trunk falls in between the spaces between the words.
On the poster the layout is, logo at the top, acts playing at the festival, the names of the stages at the festival, where to buy tickets then the sponsors of the festival. The layout shows the importance of the information for someone first looking at it. With the most important information at the top.
For the t- shirt the layout is just has the logo in the middle. Through the tree is a lot bigger compared to the name of the festival
In the layout of the map it has the map of the festival on the right hand side that is colour coded and cut into sections. Then on the left hand sider there is a key to give further information about what the symbols and the different colours mean. Also it has the logo in the top left hand corners to show that is official.

F) The target audience for this festival is 18-30 year old females. This is because there will be alcohol sold there and the genre of music falls under this age range also. Also I think it will be mainly females because of the genre of music at the festival. I think the NSR social grade would be 90% ABC1. This is because people will need a disposable income to pay for the festival.

The logo for the festival will be copyrighted so no other company can use it without the companies consent.

A) The purpose of this advertisement, is to promote the festival, make people aware that it is going on so they will want to go. It is also to inform people. It tells people the date, location and what bands are playing. Also it shows people the map of the festival area.  They can put all their advertisements up and this will increase the amount of people that see them.

B) There are many different formats the logo has been put on. Merchandise, posters, tickets and map of festival with the different stages and facilities on it. The company have done this because it's a way for more people to see the logo and it will become more popular especially on t- shirts. Also it proves it is their official advertisements because the logo will be copyrighted.

C)

D) The style of the logo is a diamond with the name of the festival in the middle of it. The diamond is supposed to represent the world. Latitude is the distance all around the world. So that is why the word latitude is in the middle of the diamond. So the style is simple because it is just a diamond shape with latitudes in it. The 2015 logo says 'the 10th birthday' in the logo. This is because the festival has been on 10 years. Festivals often incorporate these special dates because it makes the merchandise for that year more valuable.
The style of the map is quite a simple style this is because it has a lot of information on it, so if it had a lot of colours and shapes then it would be hard to read. Because of this it is just a pale green colour.
The style of the t-shit is very simple and similar to the logo. But in the t-shirt there are more colours and it has a moon which goes with the day and night theme of the design.
Finally for the style of the poster it denotes a picture of the festival from the past years and this shows the genre of the festival.

E) The layout of the logo is very simple it is just a diamond with the festival name on it, with the dates underneath it and 10th birthday on top of it.
The layout of the map is the main map of the festival is on the right hand side then in a small corner on the bottom left hand side is the key to give the map more information then the logo it on the left hand side also. The map takes up most of the space because the bigger it is the more detailed the designers can put on it.
The layout of the t-shit is a plain too then the logo with extra colour in the centre of it. Having a simple design is cheaper and enables the company to have more designs.
The layout of the tickets has the name of the festival in the middle because this is important. Then the barcode is at the left hand side this makes easier to scan. Also all the information about the price, data and location are in a text box in the middle.
The layout on the poster is the main acts on the main stages at the top then as the list goes down as the less well-known acts are listed. Also right at the top it shows the logo.

F) The target audience for this festival is 18-25 year old males. This is because there will be alcohol sold there and the genre of music falls under this age range also. Also I think it will be mainly males because of the genre of music at the festival. I think the NSR social grade would be 90% ABC1. This is because people will need a disposable income to pay for the festival.

The logo for the festival will be copyrighted so no other company can use it without the companies consent.

A)  purpose of these advertisements is to show off the festival so it is more desirable so people will want to go. Also the purpose if to inform people about the festival and what it will showcase. By putting up all their advertisements this will increase the amount of people that see them. The purpose is also to show the genre of music to people.

B) Some of the formats that the festival advertises on are, wristbands, posters, maps of the festival and a t-shirts. It is important to get their logo on all of their formats so it becomes more recognisable then more popular. Also having lots of different formats with the logo will means that more people will see.
C)

D) The style of the logo is very simple. The logo is a literal version of a giant T in the park. The grass connotes that it is in the park. Because the logo is so simple it has become very iconic that people could recognise the festival just from the T.
The reason the style of the wristbands is so different to the other advertisements is because they were made in 2012. Now over that time the festival has gained more of a name for it self and an created a more unique style that we see in the 2015 advertisements.
The style of the map is again quite simple, this is because it has a lot of information on it, and so if it had a lot of colours and shapes then it would be hard to read. Because of this it is just a pale green colour.
The style of the t-shit is very simple and similar to the logo. The only difference is that the t-shirt was made for a special year so it is slightly different. Instead of the green being grass it is hands and the silhouette of a guitar. Also it says Tommy who is the artist that was performing that year.
Finally for the style of the poster it denotes the sky with a light blue colour in the middle. Then the grass round the edges reinforces the park connotations. Also having the illustrations of the Scottish flag and its land marks connote that the festival is in Scotland.

E) The layout of the logo is a bold, capital red T in a yellow rectangle with a bit of grass on the right hand side then underneath it says in the park. This means that it says the name of the festival but in staggered text.
The layout of the bracelet is the festivals name and the year after it. Because it is a small surface there isn't much room to put extra detail. So those two bits of information is enough for a bracelet.
The maps layout is the map over the whole page to allow for extra detail. Then there is a small key on the top left hand side to give more information. Also there is the festivals logo in the bottom left hand corner which is quite small but due to it's bright colours it stands out.
One of the differences of the layout with T in the park is that the poster is landscape, when most festival posters are portrait. So on this poster the logo, location and date are all on the left and corner. The acts still go down in size with popularity of the bands. But instead of the days being side by side they are one on top of another. Then around all the sides of the poster there is grass and plants.

F)The target audience for this festival is 18-40 year old males. This is because there will be alcohol sold there and the genre of music falls under this age range also. Also I think it will be mainly males because of the genre of music at the festival. I think the NSR social grade would be 90% ABC1. This is because people will need a disposable income to pay for the festival.

G)All advertisements need to abide by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The advertisement doesn't cause any offence and does not contain anything that could cause offence to anyone. This is because it doesn't show, sexual activity, drug taking or glorify alcohol. The advert also doesn't give any false information about the festival.  The logo for the festival will be copyrighted so no other company can use it without the companies consent.

A) The purpose of these advertisements, is to promote the festival, make people aware that it is going on so they will want to go. It is also to inform people. It tells people the date, location and what bands are playing. They can put all their advertisements up and this will increase the amount of people that see them. Which will hopefully increase the amount of people that attend the festival.

B) The formats are wristbands, posters, maps of the festival and a t-shirts. It is important to get their logo on all of their formats so it becomes more recognisable then more popular. Also having lots of different formats with the logo will means that more people will see.

C)

D) The style of the logo. The logo is quite complex. It has a mountain landscape and they are made out of two colours to give them some depth. Underneath the name of the festival there are individually drawn trees. The colour scheme for the trees is a various selection of greens. These colours match the colour of the word Pemberton.
The style of the t-shirt is just the name of the name of the festival in a circle the only colour in the t-shirt is the sun. The sun has connotations of happiness and life. The intended effect is to show that the festival is a happy place that is at one with nature.
The style of the poster is the logo on the top then the forest from that logo fades info a dark green the further down the poster where the bands are. The banner from the logo is yellow so the important text on the poster is yellow.
The style of the map is in the cartoon style of the mountains with the illustrations of the map. But the map is colour coded with the surrounding countryside being green and the camping sites are coloured. The background is a pale green because if it had lots of patterns it would look too confusing and hard to read.
Finally the style of the wristbands is the same font than the logo. Also there is some small detailing of shapes. This gives the wristband some colour and is more interesting than just plain.

E) The layout of the poster is the logo of the festival then underneath the main acts that will be playing. Then it tells the audience where they can buy the tickets.
The logos layout is some mountains in the distance, the word Pemberton with the location and dates in a banner underneath it. Then there are some tress are at the bottom of that.
The layout of the map is the actual map takes up most of the page. There is a small key to explain the map and give more details.
The wrist bands layout is some small pink detailing then it says GA Camping in a green box, this would've been in association to what campsite that person was staying on. Then the wristband has the word Pemberton in the same font as the logo on the button that fastens the writs band.
The t-shirts layout is a circle with a sun rising from the word Pemberton. Then it says music festival. This because people will but it and wear it around so it is key that the name of the festival is big enough for people to see and it is explained what it is.

F) The target audience for this festival is 18-30 year old males. This is because there will be alcohol sold there and the genre of music falls under this age range also. Also I think it will be mainly males because of the genre of music at the festival. I think the NSR social grade would be 90% ABC1. This is because people will need a disposable income to pay for the festival.

The logo for the festival will be copyrighted so no other company can use it without the companies consent.
